I have always been interested in the moment when a story becomes
an image.
I trained as a set designer at the Fine Arts Academy in Bologna,
where I learned to think through space,
objects, colour
and light. My work in set and costume design gradually led me
towards directing, as I became increasingly
interested in
bringing all these elements together and exploring how they
could shape a story, a character or an emotion.
This
eventually brought me to opera, where music, image, text and
performance meet in a uniquely complex
language.
My background remains at the heart of my work as a director. I
see direction, set and costume as parts of
the same
creative process, with one often becoming the starting point for
another: a costume can suggest a world, a
space can
reveal a character, a visual idea can shape the way a scene
comes to life. I enjoy finding these connections
and
allowing the different elements of a production to grow from the
same idea.
My professional journey has taken me from independent theatre
and film projects to opera houses and
festivals. After
completing a Master's Degree in Opera Directing at the Opera
Academy in Verona, I was finalist in the 2023
VoceAllOpera
directing competition.
Alongside directing, I work as an educator, teaching art and
design to young people. Teaching has become an
important
part of my creative practice: it keeps me curious, encourages me
to experiment and constantly reminds me
that creativity
begins with curiosity, and that an idea becomes meaningful when
it can be shared with others.
